Founder & President

Former Professional AthleteExecutive SearchTalent Acquisition Strategist Workforce Transformation

Selvish Capers, Jr. grew up in the Greater New Orleans area and attended St. Augustine High School, a prestigious institution known for producing global leaders and elite athletes. He excelled in both football and basketball, earning an athletic scholarship to West Virginia University. There, he obtained a degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a focus on Business, Marketing, and Communications. Additionally, he became a standout offensive lineman and was named to the Second Team All-Big East.

In 2010, the Washington Commanders selected Selvish in the NFL Draft. He went on to play for six years as a professional offensive lineman, including time with the New York Giants, where he earned a Super Bowl XLVI Championship. He also had stints with the Edmonton Elks and Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

When his professional playing career ended in 2016, Selvish faced a reality that many athletes are unprepared for: life after sports. Despite years of elite-level competition, a college degree, and a championship ring, he found himself without any internship experience, a corporate network, or a resume. He lacked the specific professional skills and work experience necessary for the career he desired.

The identity he had built his entire life—athlete—was suddenly replaced by uncertainty and anxiety, leading to the daunting question: "What do I do now?"

Rather than letting that question defeat him, Selvish committed to finding an answer—not only for himself but also for every athlete facing the same challenge. He leveraged every available resource: NFL Players Association (NFLPA) transition programs, mock interview workshops, resume writing courses, and his personal network cultivated through years in professional locker rooms.

This journey has led to an extraordinary decade-long career in talent acquisition, marked by impactful contributions to some of the most prestigious organizations in the world, including StubHub, Apartment List, The Walt Disney Company, ESPN, and DoorDash. He has emerged as a pivotal recruitment leader and a trusted executive search advisor. His expertise in talent strategy and organizational design has guided C-suite leaders in building world-class teams and fostering innovative and inclusive environments.

At Disney, he co-created the Athlete Career Exploration (ACE) Program—an internship initiative developed in partnership with ESPN and the Southeastern Conference (SEC), specifically designed to create pathways for student-athletes into media and sports business careers.

Despite having a successful corporate career, Selvish always recalled the unease he felt during his transition from football. In 2019, he founded the Athletes Forward Foundation—not as a reactionary initiative, but as a platform focused on career acceleration and business education tailored specifically for student-athletes who are still competing.

Athletes Forward was created to prepare today's student-athletes with the professional skill sets, business literacy, and real-world experience they need — not after sports ends, but while they're still in the game.

What We Do

Our Programs

A comprehensive athlete development ecosystem — from NIL education to career placement.

Flagship

Athlete Business Bootcamp

A 2–3 day intensive where athletes master NIL deal literacy, personal brand strategy, financial basics, mock endorsement pitches, and corporate readiness. The flagship — hands-on, not a lecture.

NIL IQ Academy

Half-day to full-day sessions teaching athletes how to evaluate NIL deals, spot red-flag contract clauses, understand tax obligations, and build a sustainable brand — before a bad deal costs them.

Athlete Business Incubator

A 12-week structured program where athletes build real businesses with mentors, legal support, and funding guidance. Alumni become our best advocates — and sometimes our donors.

Rookie Fellowship

Job shadowing, micro-internships, and corporate site visits that give athletes documented, real-world work experience. Every placement is tracked and verified — adding to the athlete's career record.

Locker Room to Boardroom

A formal corporate partner network where companies commit to internships, apprenticeships, and early hiring. Accountability-driven. Outcome-tracked. Not a promise list — a real pipeline.

Athlete Clearinghouse

A verified database of program graduates with documented skills, credentials, and internship records — made available to corporate partners for recruiting. Pre-vetted, high-performance talent.

Parent Program

Sideline to Strategy.

Because the most powerful influence on a student-athlete's career is the conversation at the dinner table.

Parents don't need inspiration — they need information. Sideline to Strategy runs in parallel with athlete sessions on the same day, in the same building. Athletes get their space. Parents get theirs. At the end, everyone reunites with a shared language, a shared commitment card, and a plan.

01

The Real Odds

An honest, respectful conversation about the data on going pro — and how to reframe the athlete's identity as a business asset, not a liability.

02

NIL Literacy for Parents

What parents must know before their child signs anything: tax obligations, contract red flags, digital reputation risks, and who to trust.

03

Support Without Controlling

Concrete language tools and conversation frameworks that help parents encourage without pressuring — and recognize the difference between burnout and a bad week.

04

Financial Planning for the Athlete Household

The true cost of athletic development, scholarship strategy, how NIL income affects financial aid, and how to build a career safety net together.

"A parent information session the night before Day 1 changes the entire dynamic at home."
